January 19, 2009: Big Race Tomorrow!

Sungwoo Resort, Gangwon, Korea – Tomorrow is the parallel giant slalom, the Olympic event. There are 58 girls racing, and my hiatus from the sport leaves me starting 51st. The race course will be rather challenging, with a flat start leading to a blind steep section but the snow conditions are good and the weather is supposed to be nice for race day.

I trained this morning and it was decent. With so many riders, the course got chopped up very quickly with big holes and ruts. It was a very challenging course, one that will definitely be more difficult than tomorrow’s race,  so it was good training. I took some chances and let the board run but blew out of the course three gates from the bottom, so if I can just hold until the end tomorrow I should be good to go!
