July 26, 2009: A Week Until Snow!

Los Angeles, CA – Only a week to go until training on snow. I’m so excited! While I’ve finally found the right combination of dryland training that keeps me energized throughout the week and motivated (thanks Bob and Mark!), it’ll be great to see how those benefits will translate to the snow. Plus it’ll be a nice break from the gym.

One thing I’m slightly sad about though is I won’t be able to surf for 5 weeks. 5 weeks! Surfing has definitely helped me in finding the right balance with my workouts while keeping it fun and my passion for boardsports alive. I had a significant breakthrough in my riding – something just clicked and now I find it almost easy to get on waves (I’m still a beginner so I still have a long way to go but I’m happy that I’m improving). I’ve also found that aggression in my snowboarding and used it in my surfing which has helped with the crowded beach breaks! Hopefully my surfing will help my snowboarding although I really have to remember that it hurts a whole lot more to fall on snow.

I’m sure I’ll be going through some withdrawal but I’m bringing some surf movies to keep my spirits up. There is surfing down in New Zealand, great spots too (thanks Don!) but at this time of year the water will be about 50 degrees if that and I doubt my body will be able to stay in it for more than 10 minutes even with a thick wetsuit.

In exactly a week I’ll be on snow. Yay! I’m so ready to get back and attack those courses.
