August 4, 2009: Winded Out

Methven, New Zealand – The mountain was closed this morning due to high winds and low visibility so we were on standby until noon. In the meantime we did a light gym workout and waited for the next update. Unfortunately by noon the conditions were no better so we weren’t able to train on snow today. This is somewhat common here due to the storms that quickly encompass these South Pacific islands.

So we had an afternoon dryland session consisting of speed and agility drills as well as sprints, and then a ‘friendly’ game of soccer, or as friendly as you could get with intensely competitive athletes. But it was fun and no one got injured so it was a good session. My legs are a bit tired now but they should get some good rest tonight. We’re on hold again to go on snow for tomorrow morning but hopefully the winds die down and we can head up there at noon. Here’s hoping!
