September 13, 2009: First Races of the Season

Los Angeles, CA – I’ve been home for a little over a week, enjoying the nice SoCal weather and surfing and working out daily. The transition has been a relatively easy one, despite the 19 hour time difference, and just as I’m almost adjusted back to this timezone, I’ll be flying out again in three days for the first races of the season.

The races on the 19th and 20th of this month will take place in an indoor skiing arena in the Netherlands. I’ve never been to this location before although it hosts the first World Cup of each season, but I’ve heard it’s like being in a freezer. Thankfully you can step outside and the summer/fall temps will warm you up.

The two races are FIS races (not Olympic qualifiers) but it will be a good opportunity for me to get the 100 points I need to qualify for the Winter Games. I’ve been watching a lot of World Cup race footage so hopefully my brain is absorbing everything since I can’t be on snow right now.

So only a couple more days of surfing and then my season officially starts! I’m both nervous and excited and I’m feeling really confident about my riding.
