November 23, 2009: A Bit of Anxiety

Denver International Airport, Colorado – I’m sitting at the airport awaiting my flight to Europe to compete in two Europa Cups and the first of five Olympic qualifying World Cups. When I got up this morning I was anxiety ridden, so much so that I couldn’t eat my breakfast. The anxiety has subsided a little bit but I am nervous for the trip. Nervous for its meaning and outcome, nervous to see exactly what I’m made of. But I need to transform the nervousness and anxiety into great riding and racing. I need to flip that switch and convert all the energy into power. I need to forget about all personal issues that plague me and focus solely on one thing: getting down the hill as fast as I can.

This is it. This is why you’re here. I can feel you’re getting there and I haven’t lost my vision. I think you’re going to have a breakthrough at these races. Remember, lean forward and go as fast as you can.
